Description
Currently, local stakeholders (local authorities, associations, etc.) are showing great concern about how to develop a fair and democratic energy transition at the local level. Likewise, the European Union and other organizations are focusing on developing the transition at the local level, to develop an energy transition that is fair and democratic and that responds to the real needs of citizens. Initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors and the promotion of energy communities clearly reflect the importance of developing the energy transition from the bottom up, taking into account the realities of each community.
This Summer Course aims to address these concerns we detect at the local level, analyzing specific elements that need to be addressed to ensure this transition is truly fair and democratic. Last year’s edition delved into three key aspects of the energy transition: the legal, technical, and financial barriers that local entities and organizations face in advancing the energy transition. This edition aims to delve deeper into three other important aspects: youth participation in transition processes, the gender perspective, and the inclusion of people in situations of energy vulnerability in the energy transition. These three aspects, while just beginning to be addressed when discussing the need for a local, fair, and democratic energy transition, still require in-depth analysis.
